Raised Hands in Dua, Looked Up At the Sky: Eyesight Restored

Ubqari Magazine - September 2016

One of the dead called out in a sorrowful voice: O Ameer ul Momineen! The news from our side is that our coffins have become old and torn and whatever we spent in the world, we have regained it here and whatever we left in the world, we suffered a loss at it.

Blind eyes became bright: Hazrat Zunairah (رضی اللہ تعالیٰ عنہ) was a slave at the house of Hazrat Umar (ra). The love of Islam had found a place in her heart. Hazrat Umar                     (رضی اللہ تعالیٰ عنہ) had not converted to Islam till then. When Hazrat Zunairah                     رضی اللہ تعالیٰ عنھا)) announced her conversion, Hazrat Umar (رضی اللہ تعالیٰ عنہ) lost his temper and beat her a lot. She also had to face severe beating from her own family members. The non believers of Makkah beat her amidst the marketplace to such an extent that she lost her eyesight. Then the non believers taunted that: O Zunairah! You insulted our supreme gods like Laat and Uzzah and consequently they took away the light of your eyes. Listening to this blood boiling insult, a storm of emotions emitted inside her and out of her pure love for Islam she retorted: No, never, ever! I swear upon Allah Taal’a, your Laat and Uzzah do not have the power to take away my eyesight. My Allah Subhanawo Taal’a, who is omnipotent and merciful, will bestow the light of my eyes whenever He wills.  Just as she uttered these words, her eyesight was restored.

Questions and answers with the graves:

Hazrat Saeed Bin Musaib (رضی اللہ تعالیٰ عنہ) narrates that we went with Hazrat Ali                       (رضی اللہ تعالیٰ عنہ) to Jannat ul Baqee, the graveyard at Madina Munawwarah. There he stood in front of the graves and called out aloud: O people of the graves! Asalamoalaikum wa ramatullah! Will you tell us the news from your side or shall we tell you about your news? In response, a voice was heard from the graves: Walaikumusalam wa rahmatullah wa barakatah! O Ameer ul Momineen (رضی اللہ تعالیٰ عنہ), you tell us, what are the events that took place at our households after our death? Hazrat Ameer ul Momineen (رضی اللہ تعالیٰ عنہ) said: O people of the graves! After your death, your inheritors distributed your wealth among themselves and your innocent children are wandering around after losing you. Your enemies are spending a life of luxury in your fancy castles. To this, one of the dead called out in a sorrowful voice: O Ameer ul Momineen (رضی اللہ تعالیٰ عنہ)! The news from our side is that our coffins have become old and torn and whatever we spent in the world, we have regained it here and whatever we left in the world, we suffered a loss at it. The acclamation of Takbeer caused earthquake:

After the victory at the battle of Qaadsiyah, Hazrat Saad Bin Abi Waqas (رضی اللہ تعالیٰ عنہ) went to attack the king ‘Hums’. This was a very robust fort of the Romans. The king of Rome had sent a powerful army to protect the city. When Saad Bin Abi Waqas (رضی اللہ تعالیٰ عنہ) reached near the city, he ordered his army to hail [لا الہ الا اللہ واللہ اکبر] with full force. As the army men uttered these words in a powerful voice, the city’s high rise buildings started shaking due to a tremendous earthquake. The, the second time the army hailed these powerful words, the walls of the city and the fort started to fall apart. This scenario scared the Roman army so much that they could not even raise their weapons instead they presented a handsome amount of money as tax and extended a hand of friendship towards the Muslims. The angels provided shade:

Hazrat Jabir (رضی اللہ تعالیٰ عنہ) narrates: On the day of the battle of Uhad, when the body of my father Hazrat Abdullah Ansaari (رضی اللہ تعالیٰ عنہ) was taken to Baargah-e-Risalat ﷺ , it was in such a condition that the non believers  had cut his nose and ears and made his face  unrecognizable. When I tried to uncover and see his face, the people of my community, family members and tribesmen stopped me from doing so thinking that I would not be able to bear the tragic sight of seeing my father in such a terrible state. Just then my aunt rushed towards my father’s body with tearful eyes. Huzoor Akram ﷺ said that whether you cry over his body or you do not, the army of angels is constantly providing a shade on his body with their arms. (Bukhaari – volume: 1, page no: 395)

A fresh body and an intact coffin:

Hazrat Jabir (رضی اللہ تعالیٰ عنہ) states that on the day of  the battle of Uhad, I had buried my father, Hazrat Abdullah (رضی اللہ تعالیٰ عنہ) with another martyr ( Hazrat Umaro Bin Jammoh (رضی اللہ تعالیٰ عنہ) in the same grave. Later, I did not like that my father was buried in the grave of another martyr. So, with the intention of transferring him in to a separate grave, I dug out his body from his previous grave. Even after a span of six months, his body was in the same condition as it was when it had been buried though he had been severely wounded and his ear had been cut. (Bukhari – volume: 1, page no: 180 Wahashiya Bukhari)

It is found in the narrations of Ibn-e-Saad that Hazrat Abdullah (رضی اللہ تعالیٰ عنہ) had received an injury on his face and his hand was covering it. When his hand was removed from his wound, fresh blood started to ooze out. Then, when his hand was placed back on the wound, it stopped bleeding. His coffin which was a sheet was made to hide his face and some grass was placed over his feet. The sheet and the grass both were found in the same condition in which they were left before the burial. (Ibn-e-Saad – volume: 3, page: 562)

Many years later, when the digging of lakes began in Madina Munawwarah, Hazrat Ameer ul Momineen (رضی اللہ تعالیٰ عنہ) announced that people shall dig out and take away the bodies of their loved ones from the fields of Uhad. Hazrat Jabir (رضی اللہ تعالیٰ عنہ) says that I dug up the grave of my father, Hazrat Abdullah (رضی اللہ تعالیٰ عنہ) once again after 46 years. When I took out the body I found him in such condition where his hand was placed on his wound. When his hand was removed, the wound started bleeding. Then, when his hand was placed back, the wound stopped bleeding. His coffin which was a sheet was absolutely intact in its form.
